Redeemer Lutheran and St. Theodore Canterbury
The congregations of Redeemer Lutheran Church and St. Theodore of Canterbury Episcopal Church will participate in “God’s Works. Our Hands” on Sunday, Sept. 13. This is an annual event guided by the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The congregation will collect dry goods and canned goods to be donated to Lutheran Social Services that day. All LW community members are welcome to drop off donations in front of the church that day.
That Sunday, the congregation will also celebrate the 16th Sunday after Pentecost, also known as Holy Cross Sunday, at 10:30 a.m. at 13564 St. Andrews Drive in Leisure World.
The Rev. Brad Stienstra will preside over the service, with Linda Peters as the Holy Communion assistant and Sophia Kim as the acolyte.
Join the congregation after service for coffee, tea, cookies and snacks in the Fellowship Hall. The church is still collecting food for those in need.
The Bible study will meet on Sept. 16 only to continue the series titled “The Life, Ministry, and Mission of Jesus.” It will focus on the story from all four of the Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. In addition to the lessons, the group will watch episodes from the made-fortelevision series “The Chosen.”
People meet on the first and third Mondays of the month to help the congregation prepare crafts for the next holiday bazaar. The next meeting is Monday, Sept. 14, downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 10 a.m. The projects, directions, and all materials will be provided.
On Sunday, Sept. 13, the Gospel lesson is from Matthew 18:21-35. Jesus talks about forgiveness and mercy. Holy Cross Day is on Monday, Sept. 14. The Gospel lesson for that day is from John 3:13-17. The congregation will celebrate this day on Sept. 13. This day marks the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which honors the cross Jesus was crucified. It was first observed in Rome before the end of the 7th century. The sign of the cross is a reminder of believers’ baptism into the life, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
