LW artist fi nds expression in the wake of tragedy on Sept. 11, 2001

I will never forget what I saw on television on Sept. 11, 2001. I was working in management for American Airlines and had stopped to see a friend in the payroll department. He was watching the news on television and said, “Hey Al, come look at this.” An American Airlines aircraft was crashing into a building. Something bad was happening. On that day, nearly 3,000 people were killed in a terrorist attack on the Twin Towers in New York City.

I retired from American Airlines the following year. These paintings are what my mind saw that day, which I will never forget.

In 2002, I went on to study art at the Palos Verdes Art Center and later, in 2011, at Otis College of Art and Design.
