Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. For support on a weight-loss journey, women are welcome to stop by at 8:15 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On Aug. 14, members lost a total of20 pounds. Kathleen Hessley was named the biggest loser with 3-pound loss. Hessley said she committed to attending every Wa-Rite meeting, eating a balanced diet, and not starving herself.

Julie Campbell received a certificate of achievement for attaining her master’s of goal weight by eating half-portioned meals and not eating after 5 p.m.

Mary Kay Sherman spoke about digestive enzymes — proteins that break down macronutrients like carbohydrates, proteins and fats into smaller components for better absorption into a bloodstream. Saliva and the pancreas are the main producers of digestive enzymes in people’s bodies.

When the body does not secrete enough digestive enzymes properly, people may experience bloating and gas, diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue and vitamin deficiencies. Enzymes help with specific functions that are vital to the overall health of the human body.

The weekly food for thought was: “Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try.”
