The LW Art League will kick off a new year of creative workshops, art demonstrations and exhibitions on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

Local multi-media artist Katie Stubblefield will give a hands-on workshop to club members and guests. Stubblefield creates wood cut prints, oil paintings, sculptures, large-scale drawings and sitespecifi c installations that explore order, chaos and entropy.

People will have the opportunity to create their own mixed media collage, with all necessary supplies and materials provided by the League. How to join the Art League

The Art League’s mission is to promote the arts and artists through art education and community exhibition, and to foster an appreciation of the arts in the community. At the Sept. 8 meeting, current and prospective League members can pay the annual $25 membership fee—which provides funding throughout the year for materials, supplies, and honorariums for guest artists featured in the League’s monthly demonstrations and workshops.

For residents who have not joined the Art League and may only be available to attend a few demonstrations or workshops, a $5 contribution per workshop or demonstration will cover all necessary supplies and materials. The club’s monthly meetings also feature raffles of original art, signed books and art supply prizes.

At each meeting, members display their artwork in the Clubhouse 4 gallery area. Attendees cast votes for the “Most Popular” art piece, and its creator is awarded a ribbon. To display artwork at the Sept. 8 meeting, arrive at Clubhouse 4 by 5:30 p.m. to register the artwork with league representatives. Framed two-dimensional artwork will be displayed on individual easels, while 3D artwork will be presented on pedestals on covered tables.

Art in Bloom: Holiday Edition Twice a year, the Art League sponsors two free-to-all-comers art exhibitions. Held in June, “Art in Bloom” is a traditional fine art show held in Clubhouse 3, while the Art in Bloom Holiday Edition is a casual event to be held Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

People can talk with artists about their work and purchase artwork for their collections, or as holiday gifts. Country rock dance band Abilene will perform.

Food and drinks will be provided by Gasper Monteer Realty Group and the Art League.
