promote cultural exchange. All are welcome to appreciate the cultures and talents of their neighbors.
1. The Vietnamese Club, in elaborate, colorful costumes, will perform a traditional Vietnamese wedding ceremony. Performers’ costumes will reflect different eras of the country’s culture.
2. The Chinese Friendship Club will give a demonstration of tai chi, an ancient Chinese martial art.
3. The Filipino Association of Leisure World will perform traditional folk dances, including “Polka sa Nayon” and “Bulaklakan.”
4. The Arirang Club will perform dynamic fan dances in fabulous costumes, accompanied by a 20-member team performing rhythmic traditional Korean Jindo and Nanta drums.
5. The Japanese American Club will perform the Japanese folk song “Tanko Bushi,” otherwise known as “Coal Miner’s Song,” which was created to lighten the monotony of labor. Drummers will accompany the group using taiko drums, which was traditionally used in military battles, religious ceremonies and imperial court music.
6. Hui O Hula will perform three upbeat Hawaiian hula dances: “Haleiwa Hula,” “Green Rose Hula,” and “Holoholo Kaa.” Dances use expressive hand gestures, hip movements and facial expressions to narrate each song.
