The Filipino Association of Leisure World (FALW) will perform two Philippine folk dances at the GAF-sponsored Multicultural Festival on July 18 in the Amphitheater at 7:30.
Dances will be performed by Filipina members from the Dancing Feet Club and FALW.
The first dance is “Polka sa Nayon,” which was popularized during Spanish colonial era from the Tagalog region of the Philippine Islands.
The second is called “Bulaklakan,” which is the dance of floral garlands. “Bulaklak” means flower. It is another traditional and joyful Philippine folk dance, originating from the province of Bulacan.
A small group of Filipinos established FALW in August 2009 to embody the ideals and cultural traditions and heritage of the Philippines and foster the love for its adopted country. Members seek to live in harmony with their diverse community.
FALW welcomes everyone from Leisure World to become members.
FALW has 50 active members of different ethnic backgrounds. Yearly membership is $5. Meetings are held the second Sunday of the month in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, at 3 p.m.
The club sponsors bingo games on the third and fifth Sundays at 1 p.m. in Clubhouse 2.
