Art in Bloom Exhibition draws hundreds
Hundreds of art lovers filled the reception area of Clubhouse 3 for the Art League’s second annual Art in Bloom Exhibition on June 20. Handmade flowers adorned the south entrance of the clubhouse, and stepping inside, patrons caught an immediate glimpse of the Best in Show pieces: “Ridiculous Ranunculus” by Terese Smith, first place; “Egret” by Alison Baker, second; and “Earth Urn” by Ramayana Baba, third.
Easels and tables displayed 115 extraordinary displays of paintings, ceramics, fiber art, photography, mixed-media, 3D art, sculpture, glass and drawings from 35 Leisure World artists.
Artists were on hand to explain their work, answer questions and sell their distinctive works. Sponsored by a grant from the Golden Age Foundation, and food and drink provided by Gasper Monteer Realty Group, the exhibition is a yearly celebration of the positive impact the arts have on the community.
Sculptor Sung Kim, previously featured in multiple issues of LW Weekly, demonstrated his technique of carving miniature likenesses of deceased pets of Leisure World residents. Created using oven-baked clay and semi-permanent paint, the mini-sculptures serve as comforting keepsakes. Residents interested in receiving a sculpture can request one by emailing a brief description, special memories or stories, and image of their pets to 9009kss@gmail.com.
An end-of-year celebration and meeting will be held Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4 for Art League members. No demonstration, or workshop will be held. Instead, the league will view a special Art in Bloom video presentation and witness the recognition of outstanding contributors to the success of the League’s 2025-26 season. For more information, contact lwsb.artleague@gmail. com.
On Dec. 8 from 6-8 p.m., the Art League will hold a holiday edition of Art in Bloom and annual League membership drive in Clubhouse 4. The event will feature resident artwork in a more casual setting with music provided by Abilene, and refreshments from Gasper Monteer Realty Group, the Art in Bloom Holiday Exhibition.
