LIFE OPTIONS EXPO

The ninth annual GRF Life Options Expo will be held Friday, June 26, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Clubhouse 4 and Veterans Plaza. This popular annual event brings together nonprofits, service providers andlocal vendors to showcase a wide range of resources that can help enhance residents’ quality of life.

Residents can explore over 70 vendors while snacking on food available for purchase from Koffels Food Truck, Lucilles Smokehouse BBQ and Drizzle Orange County. Live music will be provided by the Cool Blue Jazz Group.

The Life Options Expo gives people the opportunity to learn about tools that will help them continue to thrive well into their later years.

• Free cell phones, including free captioning software:

Residents can find out if they qualify for a free governmentsubsidized cell phone and phone plan through SafeLink.

OC Social Services provides the information on adult services, aid programs, public health insurance, children and family services, and CalWORKs and CalFresh programs.

• Clear Captions will also be on site to offer information on phone services available to people who are deaf or disabled.

• Subsidized assessments: Anyone who is having trouble paying their assessments can apply for a grant from the LW Cares Fund, which offers financial assistance to qualifying residents facing temporary hardship. The LW Cares Fund willbe on site to answer questions about the application requirements.

• Free legal aid: Community Legal Aid SoCal will provide information about free and low-cost legal services including assistance with housing issues, benefits, consumer protection and advance planning documents. Representatives will be available to help connect residents with appropriate legal resources.

• Affordable food options: Low-income seniors may qualify for CalFresh, otherwise known as food stamps. Community Actions Partners, which assists with CalFresh and local food banks, will be onsite to answer questions and help people sign up for the state-funded program. Meals on Wheels Long Beach, the Project Food Box (Lions Club) and Simply Delicious will also be on hand to share information about low-cost food options.

• Broader resources: Orange County Senior Services (21 IOC) will be on site to connect people to a wide range of programs.

Veteran-specific information will be provided by American Veterans Benefits and Patriots & Paws. Leisure Worlds onsite GRF Member Resources Liaison Robann Arshat will also be available for questions.
