Club benefi ts from member’s woodworking skills
SHUFFLEBOARD CLUB
Active Shuffleboard Club member Rod Osgood has another hobby in addition to playing golf, bocce and shuffleboard in Leisure World. He is a skilled woodworker who has been honing his craft for some 20 years.
It all started with his fatherin- law, who got him interested when he bought his daughter, Osgood’s wife at the time, an expensive saw. Her health prevented her from using it, so he started to experiment, making mostly handcrafted Christmas presents for family and friends. These days he has a scroll saw on his patio and works on things all year long as time permits. Once he decides to create something, he just “wants to get it done” and likes to “challenge myself to make harder and harder projects.”
Osgood has never participated in Leisure World’s woodworking club because he is so busy playing sports, and he also doesn’t sell his wares. He likes to “give them away and make people smile.” The Shuffleboard Club has been the recipient of his largesse with necklaces shaped like a shuffleboard triangle, the pig and turkey used for the annual Ham and Turkey shoots, and a heart prominently displayed in the court building. He has made keychains and trophies for the Bocce Club, in addition to religious crosses, bracelets, flags and whirligigs for others. Members are grateful for his generosity. His creations are unique and very special additions to the club and will be used and enjoyed for years to come.
Sign-up sheets are now available at the court building for the annual Joan LaCascia Memorial Tournament, to be held Saturday, June 13, at 3:30 p.m.
The top three scores from the May 20 Ham Shoot were Micki Aiello, 175; Lee Broadbent, 173; and Jack O’Brien, 152. Kudos to Roger Bennett for taking many great pictures of the event.
