Limited bus service will be offered to weekend dances this summer
GRF WEEKEND DANCES
This summer, the GRF Transportation Department will pilot a new service that will provide bus transportation to and from the GRF Weekend Dances from June through August.
When a resident is ready for a ride, they can call 562-4721367 for the on-call bus service. A shuttle will be dispatched to pick up the resident at that time.
Passengers can be picked up near their home or any other location within Leisure World. The requested pickup location must be where the resident can see the approaching bus, and the driver of the bus can see the resident.
At the end of the dances, shuttles will return riders to their units. The final shuttles will depart from each dance at 9:20 p.m. • The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra is Leisure World’s own professional big band, playing Big Band Swing and jazz standards. They will perform Sunday, June 7, and again on June 21 from 6-9 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. Doors open at 5:30. The Velvetones play on the first and third Sundays of each month.
• Vinyl Rock, GRF’s classic rock band, will perform Saturday, June 13, in Clubhouse 4 at 6:30 p.m. The music goes until 9.
• Country rock band Abilene will perform Saturday, June 27, in Clubhouse 2. The band includes Andre Dusomme on guitar and vocals, Jim Greer on drums, Vickie Van Ert vocals, Greg Johnson on keyboards and vocals, and Bob McAlister on bass and vocals. Doors open at 6 and the music goes until 9.
GRF Dance Rules and Regulations
• No table saving. People can bring their own snacks.
• Attendees must be out of the clubhouse no later than 10 p.m. to permit adequate time for the custodian to tear down the setup and arrange the setup for the following day.
• No announcements are permitted from the stage, except by the bands.
• Clubhouse lighting and audio- visual equipment can only be adjusted by the custodian according to the instructions they have been given.
• Be sure to sign in, either as a resident or guest, in the proper spot. This is the only way GRF can judge the popularity of peoples’ favorite bands.
