The Southern California United (SC United) men’s collegiate gymnastics team recently added a major milestone to its gymnastics story. It participated in the sixth annual GymACT National Championships, held May 9 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and shared the 2026 GymACT Commissioner’s Cup national championship with the Rocky Mountain Mavericks.

SC United was founded in 2014 by head coach Heinz Schulmeister, a Mutual 3 resident.

Schulmeister built the SC United program, along with the team’s coaching staff, to give Southern California male gymnasts a serious competitive pathway after high school. The program draws athletes from colleges across Southern California, with training primarily out of New Hope Gymnastics in Fountain Valley.

Without the backing of a single university, the SC United structure brings challenges— different class schedules, different campuses, different training windows— but the 2026 national results show that the self-funded, independent college-style program can stand with the strongest men’s gymnastics teams in the country.
