LW Men’s Golf Club considers 9-hole competition

The LW Men’s Golf Club is considering including a 9-hole competition each week as part of the men’s and Guys and Gals tournaments for individuals who have trouble walking 18 holes. May 13 had 51 golfers teeing off at 7:30 a.m., with each man competing for best net scores, four circle holes, and two closest to the pin challenges. Twentyfour of the 51 men scored net at or under par and there were 55 birdies and nine circle hole winners.

Closest to the pin on holes No. 6 and 15 was Steve Kang. Average net score for the round was 57.42. Low net score for the round was Daniel Mahoney at 8 under 46, followed by new member Sam Dokko at 7 under 47, and several players at 6 under 48. Low gross for the round was Mike Mayfield at 3 under 51, with several golfers at 4 under 50.

A flight winners (handicaps of 0-5): Mayfield, first place; Yong J. Kim, second; Trai Nguyen, third; Thomas Kim, Seung Lee, Bill Lyons and Dong On Kim, fourth; Bob Johnstone, fifth; Seon Kim and Jae Choi, sixth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 6-12): Ralph Koizumi, Jae H. Lee and Steve Kang, first place; Dave LaCascia, Gene Archambault and Mark Tal Walker, second; Steve Walker, third.

C flight winners (handicaps of 13-18): Mahoney, first place; Dokko, second; Art Salazar, third; Reuban Garcia and Bruce Bowles, fourth; Hyon Shin, fifth; Won G. Park, sixth The next men’s tournament is on May 28.
