First Christian Church
First Christian Church of Leisure World teaches from God’s word, the Holy Bible, verse by verse. It is a friendly church that welcomes all visitors to join in worship and explore God’s word together, “that we may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith, both yours and mine,” Romans 1:12.
Pastor’s Message
This weekend, Americans will observe Memorial Day on May 25. It is a day set aside as remembrance to the many Americans who have died protecting the country and defending freedom. It was originally called Decoration Day after the Civil War to honor fallen soldiers and focused on decorating graves and memorial services. First Christian Church will observe the day by saluting the American flag.
This Memorial Day coincides with an important Jewish day of Shavuot. In Jewish tradition Shavuot commemorates the giving of the Torah to Moses at Mount Sinai. He gave the Torah to guide and nourish his people spiritually, and he gave his spirit to all who believe in Jesus. It also symbolizes the fulfillment of the Old Testament law through the new covenant in Christ. Many Christians view it as a time to reflect on spiritual renewal and the importance of the Holy Spirit. Shavuot emphasizes themes of harvest and gratitude, paralleling the Christian call to share the Gospel.
