The LW America First Republican Club hosted a special meeting with State Sen. Tony Strickland running for re-election in the 36th District and former Huntington Beach City Attorney Michael Gates running for state attorney general on May 2. The candidates participated in an informative question-and-answer session and lively discussion about the “jungle primary.” Voters can pick any candidate, regardless of party with the top two votegetters advancing to the general election. Before Eric Swalwell dropped out, the two leading candidates were Republicans. Now the two leading candidates are Steve Hilton and Democrat Xavier Becerra. The Republican Club’s Voter Guide distributed in April left the choice for governor up to the voter. However, the club is now recommending that Republicans vote for Steve Hilton.
The club’s information booth outside Clubhouse 6 will be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-11 a.m. Stop by the club’s booth with any questions and pick up the voter guide for candidates judges, as well as the statewide contests. Voters who need help filling in their ballots can also stop by the booth. Those unable to get to the booth can call Hope Horning at 714-833-1654 for assistance. Voters can also drop off their completed ballots at the club booth. A club officer will take these ballots directly to the Orange County Voter Office in Santa Ana. The nearest Vote Center location is Fire Station 48 at 3131 North Gate Road, starting Saturday, May 23, to Monday, June 1, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. On Election Day, Tuesday, June 2, the hours will be 7 a.m.-8 p.m. The club will meet on Wednesday, May 20, at Clubhouse 3, Room 2, social time is 4:30 p.m. and the meeting will begin at 5. Club members are asked to bring hors d’oeuvres and/or their favorite snack to share.
