The Lapidary & Jewelry Club is offering a new six-week class in copper enameling. The class will meet Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. for six weeks starting May 13.

Enameling is the process of adding finely ground colored glass to pieces of copper which are then fired in a kiln to make colorful and lasting pieces of wearable or displayable art.

Students will learn the proper preparation of the metal and will use various application techniques including layering, stenciling, sgraffito, wet packing, and more.

Students will learn how to use tools and to safely use the kiln to fire the pieces to make them permanent. Students from past classes have surprised themselves at the attractive and wearable pieces they end up with.

The class is taught by La-Verne Christenson, who has more than 20 years of experience in the process.

The cost of the class is $25. All supplies including copper, enamels and tools are supplied.

Sign up as soon as possible in the Lapidary Room in Clubhouse 4. Classes are limited to four people.
