Tournament Poker Club will play April 18 in CH 6
Those who would like to play a fun and friendly game of Texas Hold ‘Em for a $5 buy-in can plan to play with the Tournament Poker Club on Saturday, April 18. Regular tournaments are held on the first three Saturdays of each month and start at 10 a.m. with registration in Clubhouse 6. Cards are in the air at 10:30. There is no late seating.
Poker lessons are in progress. There are still seats available, but only two more lessons in April. Those interested in lessons can attend a new class beginning in June. Contact Debbie Barner at 325-721-0687 for details.
On April 4, the club had a full house for poker. The week’s high hand winners were Donna Hernandez (K-9 spade flush); K.C. Lee (A-A-A-A-K); and Wendy Wu (10-10-10-10-A). Erick Holdaway won a prize for playing and winning with the promo hand of 2-7.
As the winners of their original table, the final table players were: Namil Shin, first place; Diane Glass, second; Paul Carmona, third; Richard Jones, fourth; Wendy Wu, fifth; Glen Ison, sixth; Frank DePalma, seventh; Ming Lan, eighth; and Tom Pappas, ninth.
Play continued at the final table until Shin and Glass were heads up. In the final hand of the match, Shin was holding A spades-J hearts. Glass had Q clubs-3 hearts. Shin went all in before the flop and was called by Glass. The flop was 2 clubs, 9 diamonds, 10 diamonds, giving both players a chance at a straight. The turn was a K clubs, which was no help to Shin, but put Glass one step closer to the straight. The river was an A spades, giving Shin a pair of aces for the win.
Shin has lived in Leisure World for five years and has been a member of the club for four years. This was his third final table win. He enjoys bike riding, snowboarding and is currently serving on the GRF Board. He and his wife also enjoy traveling.
