Gary Franktz (l), with students, Karalyn Townzen, Kate Hutten, and Clara Viera from Los Alamitos High School and Mutual 14 resident Midge Bash celebrated "National Night Out" for Seal Beach on Aug. 1. The Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES)'s radio operators explained the value of emergency ham radio communication to the students. National Night Out is a community building campaign that promotes police/community partnerships. RACES provides a pool of emergency communications personnel to the police department that can be called on in the time of emergency.
