Turner aces hole No. 2 at Men’s Golf Tournament

At the Leisure World Men’s Golf Club Tournament played on Aug.11, two groups of three flights of variously skilled golfers vied for best net scores (gross score minus handicap), plus four circle holes (shots within a 5-foot circle rewarded) and two closestto- the-pin challenges. In a show of good shootin’, Bob Turner had a hole-in-one on the 60-yard, par-3 second hole.

The Turtle Lake Golf Course is a well-manicured, 1,658-yard, 18-hole, par-54 course. A total of 47 golfers teed off and played 18 holes through the early morning and into the afternoon. The weather was warm, sunny and very humid. Both the temps and humidity rose quickly as the morning progressed. There was little wind until the latter part of the morning, and by then, it was appreciated.

The fairways and greens remain in very good shape, but the tee boxes continue to be in poor condition. With little improvement in the tees, play suffered and only 20 of the 47 rounds were net at or under par, versus 23 last tournament.

A Flight encompasses golfers with handicaps of 0-7; B Flight, 8-11; and C Flight, 12-18.
