Band of the Battalion returns to CH 4 on May 18

LIVE PERFORMANCE

The Long Beach City College Evening Wind Symphony and Band of the California Battalion will present a spring concert on Monday, May 18, at 7 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

The LBCC Wind Symphony, a 50-plus member concert band, will perform the circus march “Trouper’s Tribunal” by Henry Fillmore, “A Copland Tribute” adapted by Clare Grundman and “Puszta,” an intriguing setting of Hungarian gypsy dances.

The band will also offer “ Alexander’s Ragtime Band” complete with a small dixie band. In a tribute to the country’s 250th birthday, the band will present John Phillip Sousa’s “Sesquicentennial March” which was composed in 1926 for the nation’s 150th birthday.

The Band of the California Battalion, a fully reenacted Civil War Brass Band, will provide an entertaining and informative program of music from the period when “instruments had character and characters had instruments.” Admission is free.
