The Leisure World Orchestra will be giving prospective recruits a preview of its 2025/26 season with informal run-through rehearsals Tuesdays in August.

Orchestra director Linda DeRungs invites musicians, both inside and outside Leisure World, to bring their instruments and their interest in performing to experience the orchestra’s musicality and camaraderie.

DeRungs will lead the group’s returning players and potential members to explore the new season’s music, which for the first time in years will be presented in three public concerts, one each in December, March and June. The orchestra’s 2025/26 season includes 34 challenging works, including ones by Mozart, Puccini, Bach, Prokofiev, Handel, Copland and Rachmaninov.

The orchestra experienced remarkable artistic growth under the direction of conductor DeRungs during the spring 2025 semester. DeRungs’ first time on the podium stimulated letters to the Leisure World weekly editor calling the June concert “fun, full of energy and high-spirited.” Another commented that the concert will “long be remembered.”

The LW Orchestra welcomes musicians of all levels, including those who abandoned their musical studies years ago but wish to regain their performing chops. The orchestra has a pressing need for additional French horns, wind and string players.

The August rehearsals will be held at noon on Tuesdays on the Leisure World Amphitheater stage. Prospective orchestra members wanting more information should contact DeRungs at lwlindaderungs@gmail.com.
