Club recognizes most frequently awarded artists at mid-year review
LW ART LEAGUE
Each July, the Leisure World Art League gathers to review the year-to-date, welcome guest speakers, praise successful events, and honor those whose significant contributions have inspired its members. The July 8 gathering featured visual artist Katie Stubblefield who described the elements and principals of art she used to judge the “Art in Bloom” exhibition. Attendees also viewed a video featuring the highlights of “Art in Bloom,” and former League President Barbara Simundza presented Golden Brush awards to Alice Sioson, Marilyn Jonas, Raquel Tal, Carol Levine and Linda Frysinger—whose artwork represented the most awarded pieces in the League’s monthly shows.
A “Spotlight on the Artist” reception will be held Saturday, July 28, from 1-3:30 p.m. in the lobby of Clubhouse 4. The July spotlight will feature the work of Leisure World resident Mary Guymon, who is known throughout southern California for her semi-abstract landscape and floral paintings. Guymon explained, “For this show I incorporate newspaper clippings from LW Weekly, as well as tissue paper and handmade art paper. I simply respond to what happens when I apply paint to the canvas. Color and texture define my work.” The “Spotlight on the Artist” reception is open to all interested residents and their friends to enjoy multiple art pieces created by Guymon.
Leisure World Art League meetings will not be held during the month of August. For more information contact lwsbartleague@gmail.com.
