Humanist Association
The Leisure World Humanist Association will meet Sunday, July 6, in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, at 10:30 a.m.
The guest speaker for the meeting will be Craig Hendricks, who will give a presentation titled “The Imperial Presidency: The Ghost of Richard Nixon.” He will discuss the tendency over time (from 1920 to the present day) for the executive branch to take more and more power through a variety of means.
Craig Hendricks taught a wide variety of history classes at Long Beach City College and California State University of Long Beach for three decades until his retirement in 2010. He is the joint author of several textbooks and readers, and has worked on federal education grants with school districts in Southern California since 1990. Since 1985, he has provided numerous history presentations, on topics involving historical research and public issues to a variety of audiences.
His current research interests focus on the development of the city and Port of Long Beach during the 20th century.
This is a timely subject considering the protests and concern over numerous issues that affect all Americans and the future of democracy.
