Humanist Association

The LW Humanist Association will meet Sunday, Sept. 7, in Clubhouse 3, Room 1, at 10:30 a.m.

The group will show a 25 minute video titled, “The History of Atheism.” This will be followed by a discussion of religion and how it affects club member’s lives, both positively and negatively.

Atheism is not a belief system. It is only an opinion about the validity of religious claims. When people talk about religion, there’s the problem of which specific religion they are addressing. Within Christianity, Judaism and Islam there are various denominations that disagree with each other. Also, there are other religions that believe their convictions are true. There are still thousands of people in Scandinavia who believe in the Norse Gods. Obviously, all religions cannot all be right, but could all be wrong?

In the club calendar section of the LW Weekly, the Humanist Association is listed under the Religion and Philosophy section. It is the only club that’s philosophy-centered. That’s why it is the only non-religious club that appears in that section.
