Celebrated southern California artist Ruben Zavala believes “art is a vital part of a functioning society that propels humanity into the future by expanding its understanding of what it means to be human.”

Artists such as Cézanne, Degas, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Morisot showed Ruben the language of art, which he now expresses through traditional and digital media.

Zavala has become part of the Chicano art landscape, painting California themes and subjects from Laguna Beach to San Francisco while exploring many styles, techniques, and subject matter in his own authentic voice. Zavala will be the Art League’s featured guest artist at the June 10 meeting in Clubhouse 4 beginning at 6 p.m.

This is a unique opportunity for Leisure World residents to enjoy a live demonstration of Ruben Zavala’s extraordinary artistic expression.

League members may submit their artwork by 5:30 p.m. for display, one entry per member plus an additional entry in the popular vote or 3D/Crafts category.

Artwork will be judged and recognized in each category. One best of show ribbon will be awarded, and honorable mention ribbons may be given at the judge’s discretion.

All Leisure World residents are invited to attend “Art in Bloom,” the League’s first fine art exhibition on June 21 from 4-7 p.m. in the lobby of Clubhouse 3.

There is no charge for admission.

The event will feature entertainment from local musical artists, and food favorites by Koffel’s Food Truck.
