LW Pool Club
The Leisure World Pool Club held its first ever 10-ball tournament on Feb. 22. The game is played similar to 9-ball, where players have to shoot the lowest numbered ball on the table, but in 10-ball players have to call the pocket on each shot and have one more ball to deal with.
There were 12 two-person teams in the tournament. Rusty Aquino and Dave Mackinder won their first five games in the seven-game total. Aquino and Mackinder lost game six, but came back in game seven to take first place with six wins. Steve Edrich and Cornel Sneekes went five and two to take second place. Gary Snow and Frank Sablan won their first four games but lost their last three. Snow and Sablan won a playoff to take third place money. No team in the tournament was able to break and run all 10 balls.
In the Monday night league, The Snipers expanded its league lead to 12 games by beating second place Dead Eye 8-5. Steve Mitchell and Guta Basner of The Snipers each won five games.
Anywhere But There beat I Don’t Care 8-5. Phuoc Tran and Cory Navarette each won four games for Anywhere But There. Navarette made a nice bank shot on the nine ball in the side pocket to win a doubles match.
The Renegades had a big night, beating The Cue Crew 9-4. Ren Villenueva and Gary Monahan each won six games for The Renegades. Monahan won all of his doubles matches.
After getting off to a rocky start, losing the first three games, The Favorites came back to edge Light It Up 7-6. The Favorites Connie Terry won five games, including the final eight ball game to break a tied match.
3 Layers Deep nipped The Sharks 7-6. Steve Edrich led 3 Layers Deep by winning five games, including both of his singles matches.
The Burners had a good night beating RDM Trio 8-5. John Burns won six of his seven games for The Burners and teammate Gary Schnaufer won five.
