California LifeLine Program offers a free phone and service

LW residents can get assistance signing up for the statesponsored LifeLine Program, which provides free cell service to low income seniors, May 12 at 9 a.m., in the Optum HealthCare Center Large Conference Room. Those who are eligible will receive a free Android cell phone. Volunteers will help people add five contacts to their phone. People should bring a copy of an ID card with date of birth and a Social Security Benefit Statement 1099 to determine whether they’re eligible for the program.

To qualify for the program, a resident’s total annual income must be at or less than $23,400. Documentation is required.

Applicants can also qualify if someone in their household is enrolled in certain public assistance programs, such as SNAP, WIC or Medi-Cal/Medicaid.
