Volunteers serve 259 vehicles for donations
GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION
Salvation Army donation service under the Golden Age Foundation (GAF) served 259 vehicles to fill two trucks on April 12, and next service will be on June 14, every even month, The Salvation Army donation event on April 12 was a huge success as shareholders donated enough unwanted belongings to fill two trucks to the brim, almost enough to call the third truck.
The event has thus far been organized and managed by a collaboration between the Salvation Army and the Golden Age Foundation, and it was the first service under the Golden Age Foundation since took it over from the GRF. The transition went well and smooth without any glitch except some vehicles wouldn’t route the LW Post Office to take a short cut.
The GAF will determine how to proceed so vehicles don’t cut the corner from the entrance of the LW Post Office to route to get to the Salvation Army truck.
The next Salvation Army event will be on Saturday, June 14, in Amphitheater parking lot, from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
The event will continue under the stewardship of the Golden Age Foundation (GAF), bi-monthly. After June, the next events will be held on the second Saturday in August, October, and December.
The program, dubbed “Salvation Saturdays,” brings Salvation Army donation trucks into Leisure World bi-monthly, providing a convenient and cost-effective way for residents to rid themselves of unwanted items.
The program, which began in September 2024, has gathered 17 truckloads of valuable clothing and household items, all of which have gone to support the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers located across Southern California.
GAF President Anna Derby said the nonprofit’s board was happy to accept the new responsibility. The GAF manages a large number of programs that benefit shareholders, including tax assistance, document shredding, mobility aid loans, battery recycling, and Hospitality and more.
