Wa-Rite loses 25 pounds in a week
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $ 10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. For support on a weight-loss journey, women are welcome to stop by at 8:15 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On Sept. 11, the club lost a total of 25 pounds with new member Eileen Davis winning the title of the biggest loser with a 4-pound loss. Davis said she avoided refined starches and sugar, measured her portions, and drank more water.
President Judy Chambers talked about the importance of protein—the essential nutrient found in the majority of foods including grains, legumes, meat, eggs, dairy, fish, and even fruits and vegetables. She said that regardless the source, all proteins have one thing in common—it is a building block for healthy organs, muscles, bones, nails and hair, and helps convert food into energy. This is necessary for healthy bones and muscles and may help control blood sugar. Older adults can especially benefit from protein-rich foods to slow down muscle loss due to aging and stay full longer as calories decrease.
The weekly food for thought was: “I try to make choices that support my well-being.”
