LW Men’s Golf League LW Men’s Golf League

Eleven members of the Leisure World men’s league and 12-year-old rising star Ethan —Randy Massaro’s grandson— started their round on a very humid and mostly sunny morning at River View Golf Course in Santa Ana on Aug. 3. There was no wind and the course was in terrific shape. With gorgeous mountain views and challenges of narrow fairways and elevation changes, River View is an encounter welcomed by all.

It was a very competitive day and eight of the 11 golfers scored at or below net par, with several low scores. There were four birdies— two by Jim Goltra, and one each by Dave LaCascia and Bruno Santillo. The two closest to the pin challenges were won by Tom Ross on hole No. 2, and Goltra on No. 9. Goltra and Mike Jimenez had fewest putts for the round. Net score equals gross minus handicap.

A flight winners (handicaps of 1-19): Santillo, first place; Clay Fisher, second; Gary Stivers and Sam Choi, third; LaCascia, fourth; Kyle Van, fifth; Larry Hillhouse and Goltra, sixth.

B flight winners (handicaps of 20 and higher): Ross and Jimenez, first place; Randy Massaro, second.

The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15 -20 minutes of Leisure World. These courses are always quite full, so advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles (2 under par), are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5974.
