Friends of the Library: Sale Starts Today
The 250th anniversary of the creation of the United States is July 4. Before that is Memorial Day, May 25, which honors the sacrifices of the Armed Forces who fought valiantly to preserve peace. In recognition of that history, the Friends of the Library will offer, at half-price, books about the men and women and their heroic deeds in worldwide conflicts. The sale will begin today, May 14, and the books will be on the patio and specially marked.
On May 5, Leisure World Historical Society President Margaret Gillon gave volunteers a presentation on the history of the Leisure World Friends of the Library. The group was created in 1964 to support the work of the LW Library. It was originally located in a shopping mall outside the St. Andrews Gate, and other strange places. It and the library moved several times, but through it all the Friends of the Library were wildly successful in fundraisers to support the moves and remodels.
