Gov. Newsom declares state of emergency

On Sept. 21, Gov. Gavin Newsom proclaimed a state of emergency to bolster statewide El Niño preparedness. The move will mobilize state resources ahead of potential winter storms. A press release from the governor’s office reads: “The emerging El Niño event is already breaking records, and forecasters expect it to continue to strengthen, potentially becoming the strongest in recorded history.”
