LW CARES FUND

Mutual 8 resident Denise Garduno presented a donation check to the Leisure World Cares Fund last week. The donation resulted from an estate sale she and her daughter Jennifer held at the Mutual 8 residence of Charlene Warner. After her passing, Warner’s family wanted the estate sales’ proceeds to stay in the community and directly help her neighbors financially.

At the suggestion of On-Site Sales Realtor Suzanne Fekjar, the family arranged for Estate Sales By Jennifer and Denise to handle the sale and pass on the proceeds to the fund.

The LW Cares Fund works quietly behind the scenes to provide financial assistance to residents on fixed incomes who are struggling to pay their HOA fees. Donations are essential to sustain the 33 monthly assistance funds that are currently supporting LW residents, with the hope to include more residents.

To date, more than 100 donors have contributed, with gifts of all sizes. Many have also chosen to become monthly donors. The LW Cares Fund—and the residents who receive this assistance—are deeply grateful for their generosity.

••• The LW Cares Fund Board will meet today, Aug. 13, at 1:30 p.m. in Building 5, Room B. All are welcome to attend.

During the meeting, the group will go over:

• Updates on applications for aid and efforts to promote awareness.

• Reports on client assessment experiences and requests for input for improvement.

• Donor engagement progress and outreach effort updates.

• Letters of gratitude from recent recipients. Ideas on spreading the word about the fund’s mission to help provide housing security to Leisure World residents are welcome.

Qualified applicants are awarded up to $200 per month for a 12 month period to help with HOA fees. The funds are renewable after an annual review each year. All application material is held in strict confidence.

People can receive help filling out the application, request an application to be picked up or delivered, or donate to the LW Cares Fund by going to www.lwcaresfund.org, calling 562-262-8280 or emailing lwcares@lwcaresfund.org. —Nick Massetti The Leisure World Cares Fund is not affiliated with the Golden Rain Foundation.
