Shotgun Scramble Golf Tournament

The July 29 shotgun scramble was played on a sunny and warm morning on the 1,680yard par 54 Turtle Lake Golf Course. The course was in great shape, although it continues to be heavily watered due to the high daytime temps.

Seventy-five degree temperatures greeted nine teams of six people competing for low gross. The first tee time was 8 a.m. and everyone was finished by 11. The rules were simple: 1. Each team member teed off and then it was best ball until the ball went in the hole. 2. Each best shot was marked, and each player played from within six inches of that spot. 3. Only the best score was entered on the scorecard. No individual scores were kept. 4. Every team member used their drives as best ball off the tee two times. 5. All balls were played into the hole—no gimmies or concessions.

6. Only one ball— and thus one score—counted per hole for each team and the team with the lowest total score for the 18 holes won the tournament. The team, captained by Pat Paternoster, with teammates Mike Fennesy, Brad Myers, Stella Yoon, Janell Hiebert and Marilyn Hewitt, won the event with a combined score of 12 under par.

After the tournament, a picnic luncheon was held in Clubhouse 2, with over 40 people attending. The meal was hamburgers and hot dogs with the fixings, plus tomatoes, lettuce, potato salad, desserts and drinks. President Ron Steele lead the event, and James Farr did the cooking.

The next men’s tournament will be Aug. 12 and is played on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. The next Guys and Gals tournament will be on Aug. 19 and every third and fifth Wednesdays.
