Save the date for the Salvation Army donation event
GOLDEN AGE FOUNDATION
Salvation Army trucks will be in the Amphitheater parking lot from 9:30 a.m.2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, to collect gently used items from LW residents.
People can pick up donation bags at the LW Library or the LW Weekly News Office.
The Salvation Army project, under the stewardship of the Golden Age Foundation (GAF), is held every other month.
The program, dubbed “Salvation Saturdays,” brings Salvation Army donation trucks into Leisure World every other month, to provide a convenient and cost-effective way for residents to donate clean, gently used, unwanted items.
The Salvation Army accepts donations of clothing, bedding, kitchenware, small appliances and electronics, toys, sporting goods, books, art, home decor and small-to-medium furniture.
The program, which began in September 2024, has collected 17 truckloads of donations from the community. Donations support the Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers located across Southern California.
The Salvation Army donation drive is one of the many free programs the GAF manages to benefit shareholders including the Hospitality Center, document shredding events, mobility aid loans, yearly federal and state tax filling assistance, battery and e-waste recycling and more.
In addition to giving residents a convenient venue to drop off donations, the program also saves shareholders’ money since it cuts down on expensive haul-away costs for things that were previously disposed of at the 1.8-Acre site.
The next Salvation Army donation event will be Saturday, Oct. 10, in the Amphitheater parking lot from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Beginning in 2027, the donation hours will be changed to 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
