LW Men’s Golf League

It was a cool, clear morning to play golf on April 20. Ten members of the LW Men’s Golf League convened to challenge the very long Willowick Golf Course in Santa Ana.

Willowick is a 6,000-yard par 71 level course and has no water hazards. The course was in good shape and gets better every time the league plays. Seven of the 10 golfers shot net under par with several excellent scores. Bruno Santillo scored a rare eagle by holing his approach shot on the 350-yard 18th hole. There were six birdies—all of them by Jim Goltra, setting a league record. Goltra was also closest to the pin on the 150-yard par 3 second hole, and the 140-yard 12th hole. Jae Choi had fewest putts for the A flight, and Won Park had fewest in the B.

A flight winners: Jae Choi, 7 under, first place; Santillo, 6 under, second; Goltra, 5 under, third; Clay Fisher, 3 under, fourth; Dave LaCascia and Sam Choi, fifth.

B flight winners: Tom Ross, 3 under, first place; Park, 2 under, second; Randy Massaro, even par, third; Bob Munn, fourth.

The league plays every Monday at four local courses, all within 15-20 minutes of Leisure World. Advance league reservations are required with a sign-up sheet available at each round.

There is a prize pool for each round that players are not obligated to enter. Rewards are given for low net in each flight, birdies, closest to the pin on two par threes, and for the lowest number of putts in each flight. Holes-in-one and eagles are generously rewarded. Those interested in playing can contact Gary Stivers at 714-313-3697 or Dave LaCascia at 801-674-5975.
