Wa-Rite: imperfect days still count as progress in weight loss
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. For support on a weight-loss journey, women are welcome to stop by at 8:15 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.
On April 10, the club’s recordkeeper Darleen Gardner informed members that the club lost 24 pounds in the past week. President Judy Chambers was named the biggest loser with a 4-pound loss. She said that she laid off salt, which was easier done than said.
Julie Cisneros reached her short-term goal and earned $10. She credits her success to eating smaller portions and taking more time to chew her food.
Virginia Olejnik talked about benefits and side effects of Niacin, also known as vitamin B3. She said that B3 is necessary for the health of a nervous system, digestive tract and skin. It can be found in foods such as red meat, poultry, fish, brown rice, nuts, seeds, legumes and bananas. Side effects of too much niacin may include flushing around the face and neck and upset stomach.
Another topic that Olejnik covered was the 24-hour Optum HCC nurse, who can be called at 562-795-6216 for health questions and non-life-threatening symptoms. In emergency, call 911.
The weekly food for thought was: “Progress is not always steady, and having ‘off ’ days is still okay.”
