Fine art photographer will give free demonstration on April 14
ART LEAGUE
The April 14 gathering of the Leisure World Art League will feature a demonstration by fine art photographer Jeffrey Rovner, who specializes in shadow-infused conceptual art. Rovner’s photographs span several genres including portraiture and environmental portraits that use a subject’s surroundings to help tell their story and reveal their character.
Rovner explains, “I also like the serendipity and challenge of street photography, which isolates interesting compositions and juxtapositions from ordinary life.” Most recently, he began using photographs not as ends in themselves, but as instruments to explore a concept. He continues, “if I had to find a unifying thread that runs through all my work, it is an attempt to find order and meaning in chaos.”
Rovner’s presentation will emphasize photography from an artist’s viewpoint. He believes, “our technologies connect us, but also increasingly isolate us and divide us. Art has the power to remind us of the values and human needs we share and thereby increase our empathy and reduce our alienation. We could all use a lot more empathy and a lot less alienation these days.”
Funded by a grant from the Golden Age Foundation, the Art League’s monthly presentations and workshops put leading artists in front of Leisure World residents, providing exposure to art vision and technique.
The April 14 gathering begins at 6 p.m. in the main hall of Clubhouse 4. Those interested in displaying their artwork should deliver their work to Art League staff by 5:30 p.m. to be placed in a suitable setting. Attendees will cast votes for the “Most Popular” artwork on display and the displaying artist will receive a ribbon of recognition.
All Leisure World residents and their guests are welcome to attend. There is no charge to enjoy the presentation, but attendees may contribute to the League through donations and via the purchase of raffle tickets for a prize presented by the guest artist.
