The Art League’s Art in Bloom Exhibition, an annual art show featuring the work of Leisure World artists, will be held Saturday, June 20, from 4-7 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

Leisure World residents are invited to submit their artwork via email for consideration and inclusion in the show. Submissions must include digital images of artwork and an official application. To get an application, email lwsb.artleague@gmail.com or pick one up in person beginning April 1 from the GRF Recreation Office in Building 5. Details of the show, and requirements for art submissions will be included.

Last year’s Art in Bloom Exhibition drew hundreds of art fans, viewing over 120 artworks including paintings, drawings, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, quilts, fiber art, lapidary, jewelry and more. Visitors enjoyed music provided by Leisure World performers, and wine and food courtesy of Gasper Monteer Realty Group.

On March 10, the Art League held a curation workshop hosted by local artist Katie Stubblefield. The event trained aspiring artists to cull and select art pieces, arrange them into a themed wall layout, and critique the presentation with fellow artists. The enthusiastic crowd worked as teams and individually to determine how to objectively view artwork, select a “hero” piece as their focal point and lay out a successful and pleasing collection. Monthly Art League workshops and demonstrations are made possible via a grant from the Golden Age Foundation. Materials are provided free of charge.

The winner of the most popular award for artwork displayed at the meeting was Daniel Prosek with his stained-glass sculpture, “Donut Mobius.” Prosek is a recurring winner of awards at Art League meetings, working in a variety of media. At each monthly meeting, League members display their artwork for consideration and vote for their favorite piece on display.
