Traveling Tigers: Explore Iceland
The Leisure World Traveling Tigers will meet Wednesday, March 18, at noon in Clubhouse 3, Room 9, starting with a potluck. To participate, bring a dish to share and a drink for yourself. The club will provide plates, cups and plastic ware.
At 1 p.m. after the potluck, there will be a short business meeting, followed by a 10-question multiple choice travel related trivia quiz.
This month, Leila Claudio invites people on an unforgettable journey to the land of fire and ice—Iceland.
Travel with her from the colorful, culture-rich capital city of Reykjavík to the soothing, mineral-rich waters of the legendary Blue Lagoon. Discover a country where glaciers and volcanoes coexist in dramatic harmony, where steaming geothermal fields bubble beneath vast open skies, and where cascading waterfalls such as Gullfoss and Seljalandsfoss thunder through ancient landscapes shaped by time. Learn about Leif Erikson, the daring Viking explorer who journeyed to North America nearly 500 years before Columbus. He called it “Vinland,” inspired by the wild grapevines he found in what is now Newfoundland, Canada—a testament to Iceland’s seafaring heritage.
Claudio will guide people through breathtaking geothermal springs, black sand beaches and waterfalls, plus a rare excursion inside a glacier—an awe-inspiring experience within a world of shimmering blue ice. Then, she’ll show Thingvellir, home to the world’s oldest still-existing national parliament, founded in 930 AD—a site where history and geology meet along the rift between two continents.
From Viking sagas and dramatic lava fields to dancing Northern Lights (in season) and charming seaside villages, Iceland is a destination unlike any other. Join the club for this adventure and experience the magic, mystery and majesty of Iceland.
