The Leisure World Art League’s March 10 meeting will feature “The Curator’s Eye,” a hands-on workshop intended to help artists develop a professional edge in curating and displaying their artwork. The workshop begins at 6 p.m. in Clubhouse 4.

All needed supplies will be provided as part of a generous grant awarded by the Golden Age Foundation. Attendees need only bring their artistic curiosity to participate.

Katie Stubblefield, a celebrated artist who creates wood cut prints, oil paintings, sculptures, large-scale drawings and sitespecific installations, will conduct a multi-segment workshop to develop amateur artists’ intuition into an art juror’s mindset.

Artists will evaluate and select artwork, devise a compelling theme, and “build a wall” of carefully selected pieces that tell a story in the elevated style of a professional museum.

Attendees will review and cull 30 images down to five to seven good pieces, create a narrative and establish a compelling title. Among the selected pieces a “hero piece” will be designated as the centerpiece of the wall of artwork. Participants will prepare their own “wall”, and using juror’s scorecards, will score other artist’s walls. The entire group will identify which walls feel most like a professional museum, and explain why.

Artists can check-in one art piece for display beginning at 5:30 p.m. Meeting attendees will vote for the “most popular” piece on display and a special ribbon will be awarded the creator of the piece. There will also be a door prize drawing for artwork or a special prize provided by the evening’s workshop leader, Katie Stubblefield. All interested parties, league members or not, are welcome to attend and enjoy the workshop.
