Wa-Rite is a femaleonly club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On Jan. 16, members learned that the club lost 13 pounds in the past week. Julie Cisneros lost 3.5 pounds and was named the biggest loser.

A speaker at the meeting talked about many uses for baking soda and the meaning of flowers. Members learned that rinsing a mouth with one teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in a glass of warm water may help get rid of cravings for sweets. Other ways where baking soda could come in handy include unclogging a drain (mix of baking soda and hot vinegar, a cup of each, flushed with a quart of boiling water after a few minutes); sprinkling it on the bottom of a toaster oven to eliminate the burned smell; or sprinkling it inside rubber gloves to keep them dry and smelling good.

Members also learned about the language (meaning) of flowers. The orange blossom, for example, means chastity, purity, and loveliness, while the red chrysanthemum means I love you. Or the same flower in different colors may have different meanings. For example, pink carnation means I’ll never forget you; red—my heart aches for you; purple conveys capriciousness; white means sweet; and yellow means romantic rejection. Likewise, a white violet means innocence, while a purple violet means the giver’s thoughts are full of love. Red roses are used widely to show love, while a red tulip is a confession of love.

The weekly food for thought was: “Embrace the sound of victory even when you lose a half a pound.”
