Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork. On Jan. 9, members learned that the club lost 30 pounds since its last meeting, and 22 pounds in the month of December. Joy Nasser was once again named the biggest loser with a 4-pound loss, also reaching her short-term goal. Nasser said she turned down her favorite desserts during the holidays, and rode her tricycle a lot around the community. Julie Cisneros reached her short-term weight loss goal and earned $10.

Nasser as well as Velma Sarna also earned their queens of weight loss titles for the month of December. They both concurred that weight loss is mainly psychological and can be achieved if people put their mind over matter. Three other members who lost most of the weight were Julie Campbell, 4 pounds; Nasser, 3 pounds; and Sarna, 3 pounds. The members attending every week with no gain were: Ellen Larsen and Sarna.

The weekly food for thought was: “Don’t worry about slip-ups because a weight-loss journey is a long-term process.”
