After a break following the Leisure World Orchestra’s holiday concert, the group’s conductor, Linda DeRungs, will begin rehearsals in early January for the orchestra’s two spring concerts.

The orchestra’s 50 musicians will first meet on Tuesday, Jan. 6, to prepare works from the American songbook, Latin dances, and selections composed by Brahms, Rimsky-Korsakov and Bruckner for its early March event. The orchestra’s final 2025-26 concert in June features Aaron Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man,” the finale from Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite,” and two pieces exploring the 600-year-old Korean folk song, “Arirang.”

LW’s orchestra rehearses Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon-2:15 p.m. on the Amphitheater stage. Prospective orchestra members who want more information can contact DeRungs at lwlindaderungs@gmail.com.

The LW Orchestra welcomes musicians of all levels, including those who abandoned their musical studies years ago but want to refresh their skills. The orchestra currently needs additional string players and French horns.

At the Leisure World Orchestra's Dec. 13 holiday concert, Gemma Lowe stood on her uncle's knees to grab a better view of her grandfather, pianist Yuri Kotakov, performing before the capacity audience.
