Hui O Hula meets on Tuesday and Thursdays to practice Hawaiian dance
Hui O Hula, Leisure World’s Hawaiian dance club, meets twice a week at 1 p.m., on Tuesdays upstairs in Clubhouse 6, and on Thursdays at Veterans Plaza between the LW Library and Clubhouse 3 (indoors at Clubhouse 3 if weather is poor). Participants should wear comfortable clothing and bring socks or soft booties. For class information, call or text 562-338-1502.
The club is grateful for dancer and steadfast supporter Harry “Hap” Pedigo. A well-rounded, culturally savvy Renaissance man, he is a retired attorney who has also been a DJ, a teacher in Japan, and a lifelong fan of music, art, race cars and airplanes.
Above all, he is a devoted father who moved from the Bay Area to Southern California to be close to his grandchildren during their high school and college years.
Pedigo first got involved in hula years ago to support his daughter, Emily. When she stopped dancing, he continued. Lucky for Hui O Hula, he now lives in Leisure World.
Today he attends class each week, smiling and adding his own brand of joy to the room.

Hui O Hula dancers use ipu (gourds), pu'ili (wooden sticks) and ulul (feathered gourd rattles) in their dances.
