The Labor Day demonstrations that members of the LW Democratic Club participated in were well attended despite the heat. The club encourages residents to get involved in hands on opportunities like these.

The California Democratic Party (CADEM) is urging a democrats to vote Yes on Prop 50 on Nov. 4. California Gov. Gavin Newsom has proposed redistricting California to match what happened in Texas. The club will be canvassing for this proposition in October. Those who want to do something, canvassing is a good way to start. CADEM has several opportunities to volunteer by canvassing, phone banking or sending postcards to voters. People can learn more by downloading the CADEM app on the Apple Store or the Google Play Store.

The LW Democratic Club’s annual fundraising drive will continuing through mid-September. New members who haven’t received the club letter regarding fundraising should email beverleybender@gmail. com.

Bev Bender is the chair of Voter Education, which meets on the second Wednesday of the month in Clubhouse 3, Room 2, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. This month, the group discussed the topic “Core Elements of Nonviolent Direct Action and Civil Disobedience.” For more information on the voter education series, email beverleybender@gmail.com. Reservations are not required.

Although it seems that there is an endless amount of bad news lately, there’s good news to be found too. The U.S. Mint’s new quarter honors Stacey Park Milbern, co-founder of the disability justice movement, and is the first to depict a woman using a wheelchair on American currency ( www.usmint.gov).

There are some changes to the upcoming membership meetings due to the holidays. The club’s regularly scheduled meeting for Nov. 26, is moved to the following week on Dec. 3. The December membership meeting is cancelled.

Visit the Democratic Club’s Hospitality Booth on the first Tuesday and third Thursdays each month from 10:30 a.m.12:30 p.m. Stop by and visit with like-minded individuals, register to vote, change address, or change party affiliation. The Lunch Bunch meets on the first Wednesday of each month. The group is an enthusiastic gathering of old and new friends to enjoy a meal together at Hof’s Hut at 11:30 a.m. For more information, email Debbie Wrathall at Debbiewrathall@mac.com.
