WA-RITE

Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh in and complete the registration paperwork.

On Aug. 15, members learned that the club lost a total of 17 pounds for the week. There was another biggest loser tie between Bea Quintana and Joy Nasser with a 2-pound loss each. Quintana continues to eat dinner no later than 5 p.m. with no snacking between meals. Nasser, a relatively new member, reached her short-term goal and won $10 with the club president Judy Chambers reminding her that it pays to lose.

Bev Bender, who is also a certified laugh leader, spoke on a serious and relatable topic—chocolate. She said that according to scientists, chocolate may improve cognitive function and prevent memory loss. Some also believe that it has the influence to avert cancer. Bender added that the British Journal of Nutrition published a study about chocolate’s positive effect on looking youthful and staying active. Chocolate lovers, however, may want to choose dark chocolate
