GRF Weekend Dance Schedule

Ballroom dance on Aug. 3

The Velvetones Ballroom Dance Orchestra will perform Sunday, Aug. 3, from 6-9 p.m. in Clubhouse 4. The Velvetones play in Clubhouse 4 on the first and third Sundays of each month.

This month, the Velvetones welcome Serenity Home Care Group, who will be sponsoring the performances. Residents are encouraged to stop by their table, welcome them and learn about their services.

The Velvetones are Leisure World’s own professional big band. The orchestra vividly brings the classic big band sound to life, authentically recreating the style, musicality and essence of Swing Era band music. The group peppers their repertoire with contemporary pop hits to broaden their audience.

Vinyl Rock on Aug. 9 Vinyl Rock will perform Saturday, Aug. 9, in Clubhouse 4 at 7 p.m.. All are welcome but guests must be accompanied by the resident who invites them.

Based on resident feedback, Vinyl Rock’s performances will now be at a much lower volume so that attendees can enjoy conversations when they’re not out on the dance floor.

Country rock on Aug. 23

Abilene is Leisure World’s No. 1 country rock band going strong for 22 years. The band features Andre Dusomme on guitar and vocals, Jim Greer on drums, Vickie Van Ert on vocals, Greg Johnson on keyboards and vocals, and Bob McAlister on bass and vocals.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the music goes until 9. They will perform Saturday, Aug. 23, at Clubhouse 2. Free dance lessons precede the performance, starting at 6:30.

GRF Dance Rules

• No table saving. People can bring their own snacks.

• Attendees must be out of the clubhouse no later than 10 p.m. to permit adequate time for the custodian to tear down the setup and arrange the setup for the following day.

• No announcements are permitted from the stage, except by the bands.

• Clubhouse lighting and audio- visual equipment can only be adjusted by the custodian according to the instructions they have been given.

• Be sure to sign in., either as a resident or guest, in the proper spot. This is the only way GRF can judge the popularity of people’s favorite bands.
