Wa-Rite loses 27 pounds and ties for the biggest loser of the week
WA-RITE
Wa-Rite is a female-only club that meets on Friday mornings from 9-10 in Clubhouse 3, Room 1. Weigh-ins are from 8-8:45. Dues are $10 a year, plus 10 cents upon signing in. LW ID cards must be shown. Women who want support on their weight-loss journey and to meet like-minded people are welcome to stop by no later than 8:45 to weigh-in and complete the registration paperwork.
On June 13, the club learned that the members lost 27 pounds for the week. Joyce Brannon and Joy Nasser tied for the biggest loser with a 3-pound loss each. Nasser found it easier to walk after a knee replacement surgery and cut back on ice cream. Brannon attributes her weight loss to eating more protein. Bea Quintana reached her short-term goal by eating dinner by 5 p.m. and not snacking afterward.
Club member Linda Rich presented on Bob Greene’s philosophy. Greene is a renowned journalist, author and fitness expert, known for his work with Oprah Winfrey. His philosophy is: “Every day of your life, when you wake up, you have a choice to build on the positive momentum, or let negativity take over.” Greene says that success comes when you say: “I might mess up, but I’m going to start again and keep going.”
Greene reasons that the emotionally hungry people use food as a source of comfort, instead of determining the root of a problem or what they really need. For weight loss, he suggests making a goal of losing 1-2 pounds a week by doing a 20-30-minute medium intensity workout or walking on a treadmill five times a week. Greene believes that losing weight comes down to three simple basics: eat less, move more, and be deserving of a slimmer, healthier and happier life.
The weekly food for thought was: “I have come further than I would have ever thought possible, and I’m learning along the way!”
