Art League
The guest demonstrator for the Art Leauge meeting in Clubhouse4onTuesday,Feb.14, will be Janet Roberts. Janet was an art and physical education major at the University of Redlands, where she earned her teaching credential in 1970. She taught art and advanced placement art for over 38 years at Walnut High school, Diamond Bar High School and Chino Hills High School before retiring eight years ago. She was selected as ten of 12 teachers in the United States to study art history at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. She says it was an experience of a lifetime. She loves exploring art museums and learning the back stories of the pieces. It brings the art alive for her.
Janet is a longtime crafter and painter but found her real love in drawing and colored pencils. She has illustrated two books for her friends and several of her drawings can be seen on th 1980s TV show “30 Something.” She loves sending handmade cards to her friends and teaches art classes from her home. She is also a motivational speaker and travels all over the United States and Canada sharing positive inspiration to high school and middle school students and adult philanthropic groups.
When COVID hit and everyone was directed to stay in their homes, Janet knew she needed to come up with something to keep herself busy every day. On March 18, she started a Facebook page called #creativejournalchallenge and encouraged others to join. She has not missed a day since and has filled over 12 journals with art. The Facebook page is based on being positive through art.
Janet is excited to share her love for colored pencils with optimistic motivation. Her favorite quote is by Teddy Roosevelt: “No one cares how much you know unitl they know how much you care.” Janet has combined her love of art and her heart for reaching out to others during the tough times of COVID. She is excited to share many of her creative pages with the club and demonstrate easy ways to color with pencils.
Members should have their painting for the art show hung by 6:30 p.m. to be judged. The popular vote theme is “abstract.” — Jay Young
