The LW Chess Club meets every Friday in Clubhouse 3, Room 7, from 1-4:30 p.m. Beginners lessons are available. Keep Alzheimer’s and dementia at bay by practicing this strategy game, proven to improve short and long-term memory skills. People are encouraged to bring a friend and enjoy the moment. There were witches, pumpkins, a hula girl, a disco duo, a scary spider, a gap mouthed goblin and a flapper among some 30 members and guests who gathered in Clubhouse 1 on Oct. 25 to kick off Halloween with the Shuffleboard Club. A large backdrop was festooned with tangled webs, skeletons, bats and scarecrows, thanks to the creativity of member Sally Foster. A bouquet of black roses adorned each table.

The Cribbage Club meets every Tuesday at noon in Clubhouse 1. Refreshments are served each week from noon-12:15 and anyone arriving by 12:15 will be assured a place to play. Brief announcements are made and play begins at 12:30. Yearly dues are $5 and each player pays $1 to play. Those finishing in the top four scores will be awarded prize money the following week.
